History Of Offinso Circuit

The Offinso Circuit was started with the name "SOUTH ASHANTI MISSION" with Missionaries from Great Britain in the 1880's. The European Missionaries whose names became outstanding in relation to the South Ashanti Mission were Rev. William Whittle, A.H Mildien, E.T Wood, R.S Morris, Ernest Sawyer, C. A. Pratt Aikins, H.R Adams and L. Lalken. They worked hand in hand with African Catechists, caretakers and teachers.
Later the South Ashanti Mission became a Circuit in 1962 with the name "KWABRE OFFINSO CIRCUIT" with Rev. Bekoe as the first Superintendent Minister. In October, 1979, Akomadan, a section under the circuit had a minister, Rev. Samuel Mponponsuoh and in 1982, a third Minister, Rev. James Amoah, was stationed at Tetrem, also a section under Offinso Circuit.
Akomadan became a circuit in 1981 with the name AKUMADAN CIRCUIT with K.A Abeka as her first superintendent minister during the chairmanship of Rev. I.K Asuamah- Thompson. In 1983 Tetrem sectionalso became a Circuit with the name "TETREM CIRCUIT". That means, Offinso circuit can boast of being a mother to two circuits in the Diocese.
Offinso is one of the oldest circuits in the Kumasi Diocese. The Circuit has twenty six (26) societies namely: Dentin, Kokote, Abofour, Namong, Asamankama, Amoawi, Agyeimpra, Old Offinso, Koforidua, Samproso, Anyinasosu, Nkwankwaa, Asempaneye, Asuboi, Kyebi, Awisem, Kwapanin, Worapong, Boahenkwaa, Boasi, Adukro, Ayensua, Sakam, Kayera and Berekum.

The gallant Superintendent Ministers who have held the fort of the Circuit to date are:

The circuit so far has enjoyed the services of the following Evangelists: Moses Awuah, Andrew Takyi Badu and Victor Osei.
The Circuit Lay Movement Council Chairpersons in order are: Messrs. John Kofi Owusu Ansah, Gyamfi Kumanin, E.Y Abrafa and Solomon Kesseh.
